Tajika, the tradition behind Varshaphala, does something no other branch here does: it builds a whole new chart for a defined period, and reads that chart on its own terms.
The moment is precise. The Sun returns to its exact birth longitude once a year, and that instant — computed, not assumed — is the start of the astrological year. It typically falls a day either side of the calendar birthday and shifts from year to year, which is why an annual chart cast for the birthday date rather than the solar-return moment is a different chart.
What the annual chart adds
The Varshesh, lord of the year, is chosen by a scoring procedure among a fixed set of candidates rather than by a single rule. Whichever planet wins governs the tone of the twelve months, and its strength and placement in the annual chart carry more weight than any other single factor in the reading.
Tajika aspects are the system’s most distinctive borrowing. Unlike the fixed graha drishti of Parashari, they depend on whether an aspect is applying or separating — Ithasala for approaching, Ishrafa for separating — and so describe whether a matter is coming together or falling apart rather than merely that a connection exists. This applying/separating distinction is what makes Tajika feel closer to horary than to natal astrology.
Sahams are sensitive points computed from arithmetic between planetary positions, each standing for a specific subject — wealth, marriage, illness and so on. They are read as the year’s pressure points.
Panchavargeeya bala is Tajika’s own five-fold strength measure, distinct from the Shadbala used in Parashari, and Harsha bala adds a sixth dignity-based component.
Timing within the year
The Mudda dasha divides the year among the planets in Vimshottari’s proportions, compressed from 120 years into one. It is what turns “this year brings X” into “in these weeks”, and it is the natural companion to the annual chart rather than an independent system.
A note on sources: Tajika is one of the areas where published implementations disagree most, particularly on the Varshesh selection and on the Hadda and Mudda schemes. Where this site’s results differ from a given book or program, the divergence is usually deliberate and traceable to which classical rule was followed.
